All about Adjustable trailer hitch

If you already possess a used car trailer, you will understand what it takes to own one. There is often a fair amount of upkeep involved with used car trailers, as they need periodic cleaning, maintenance and inspection. Additionally, when it comes to hitching heavy duty car trailers to vehicles, it can sometimes be an arduous task with lots of factors to check. Thankfully though, this may not be the case for the future of manufacturing trailers.

A new concept regarding how used car trailers are hitched, could see the process become much easier. The new idea involves trailers automatically linking to a vehicle at the touch of a button. This would revolutionise what’s involved with hitching, especially as the current system hasn’t really changed for many decades. The new system, named Automatic Trailer Connection, works by using sensors. So, when the driver needs to hitch heavy duty car trailers, it can be carried out without any manual handling.

All the driver needs to do is have the vehicle 2 metres away, close enough for the sensors to detect the used car trailer is there, then the system takes care of the rest from a touch of a button. After touching the button, the vehicle will reverse itself and hitch all on its own. Furthermore, there isn’t any need for attaching cable, as these are located inside the bumper.

So, when are we likely to see this technology come into fruition and who from? Semcom, who came up with the idea, put it together knowing about the smart systems cars already come equipped with today, which is why the idea came about. Semcom stated that they didn’t understand why towbars for heavy duty car trailers hadn’t been developed yet, especially while all other automotive technology has progressed. What people find a complicated solution can now hope for ease for the future in towing used car trailers.

Although this concept seems promising, the original creator admits this only came to fruition to show what such perspectives can bring. Keeping this in mind, the company hopes other businesses within the automotive industry would be interested in further developing the idea. As there are as many as 1 million people who own a used car trailer, it’d be fantastic if this idea became a reality for the many trailer and caravan owners.

Until then, it is important to know how to safely and easily attach a trailer to a vehicle yourself. To do this, you must firstly know what your car’s towing capacity is. This can be found in the owner’s manual, or on some cars the weight figures are imprinted into the plate on the door sill. Furthermore, you need to make sure the trailer width doesn’t exceed 2.55 metres, and the whole length (trailer and car included) doesn’t surpass 7 metres. Lastly, not all cars are best to tow trailers and caravans, so ensure you carry out some research before investing.
